This week I am on check in duty. I am supposed to check in the books that arrive and process them. I would do this if any would arrive. So far today there has been 1 book. At least this morning I was able to work on another project.
I've decided to sign up for a 4 week online class. I am torn between collection development and an acquisitions related budget and finance course. Will either of them look good on a resume? Would I be better off doing something else. Is there any hope for someone who can't decide if they like libraries or computer software business analysis better. Can't wait to take the kids to the new Harry Potter movie and forget all of this.

How to make a bad impression
So I had a meeting with the Dean and I prepared ahead of time but the minute she asked if I had any questions I did the same thing I do in interviews -- I blanked I could think of absolutely no questions and I sounded like a ditz.

One of those days
So the fiscal year finally started but there are still no orders to process. A child who went to school with my kids and is waiting for a transplant is having a crisis. She is in my prayers and thoughts of her family and what they must be going through scare me to death.
In typical fashion for him -- today is the last day for one of the department's student workers -- so we all brought snacks for the typical going away extravaganza -- and he is late

Stuck in the back room
I would not mind finding a way to do some local presentations. But at my level I am not involved in any big changes to make presentations about. I also am in a back office that makes it hard for me to become more involved with library projects. I feel like my career is on hold and that it is slowly affecting the rest of my life since I feel unable to clearly decide what to do next at home either

Not rocket science
So I have just been told that at least ordering material is not "Rocket Science". I do not think anything was meant by it but I was somewhat taken aback. I mean really the world will not end if we make a mistake but it also is not as easy as the librarian believe.

Is this the right move
If you leave the library world -- or in my case never really enter it after school -- getting back into it can be difficult. So I wonder if I made the right move taking any position at a library rather than waiting for the correct one. I needed a job and if I stay for enough years my kids could go to school for free -- but there is nothing to do and I don't see a way out. Why do librarians have such a hard time figuring out career moves. I was never one for schmoozing -- I don't even like to sit in the lunch room and eat.
So I wonder what I should do next. Take a class -- and if so which one? Join a group and volunteer? I don't have much time now.

End of fiscal year
This is my first end of fiscal year and a lot of my normal tasks have been "frozen" until the new fiscal year. I am teaching myself excel pivot tables. I still hope to take this opportunity to learn and move up in the library but sometimes it is hard to wait.

Libraries, Life and Everything -- the start
This is my start of a blog for my kids and myself. I'm not much of a writer but the youngest is a budding story teller/poster and wants a place online. I live in the Midwest and I actually like it. I like the wide open space -- I have lived next to mountains and they make me claustrophobic. I have traveled all over but I now live in the same city I was born in.
I have suffered through a surprise lay off recently and joined the work world where I thought I would be after school -- libraries. I am not sure how this will work out but I have rediscovered my love of the concept of collecting and lending and providing material to be borrowed and used for free.
